Real Canterbury provides a health and wellbeing service for taiohi aged between 13-20 years through the Real Talk Group Programme and youth mentoring.
We support young people to push past their fears and inhibitions to realise what they are capable of.
Real Talk Group Programme
The Real Talk Group Programme runs over 10 weeks, offering early intervention for vulnerable taiohi struggling with symptoms of anxiety and depression. It’s delivered with the intent of teaching taiohi skills that will enable them to better manage intense emotions, social stressors and other things that get in the way of everyday life. The programme is designed to encourage taiohi to push past their fears and inhibitions and realise their own unique potential.
Term 4 times and dates are:
- 13-14 year olds: Mondays 4pm – 6pm from 12 October – 14 December
- 15-17 year olds: Wednesdays 4pm – 6pm from 14 October – 16 December
- 18-24 year olds: Fridays 1pm – 3pm from 16 October – 18 December

There is also the opportunity for taiohi to be supported one-on-one alongside the programme – talk to your Real Canterbury team if you would like more details about that.
Summer Programme 2021
The Summer Programme will run over three weeks and is a condensed version of the ten-week group programme. The programme will introduce taiohi to strategies they can incorporate into their day-to-day lives to enhance wellbeing. Taiohi will be introduced to mindfulness, goal planning, sensory modulation and simple cognitive behavioural strategies to help challenge negative thinking, all while making the most of the summer sun!
Mondays and Wednesdays 1pm – 3pm from 11–27 January 2021
